WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and Wendy Barlow split as the wrestling icon revealed he was “never actually married” to his fifth wife.
Flair, 72, broke the news of his split on social media on Monday, saying: “After Taking Some Time Apart, Wendy And I Have Decided To Go Our Separate Ways.
“Please Respect Our Privacy & Our Families During This Time! I Will Love & Cherish All Of Our Memories Together Forever, And I Will Forever Be Thankful For All She Has Done To Make My Life Better!”
However, Flair and Barlow revealed they were never legally married despite the heartbreaking post.
The couple held a wedding ceremony in September 2018 on the rooftop of the Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach, Florida.
“It was just a ceremony. We were never married,” the 16-time world champion told PEOPLE.
Barlow also confirmed to the publication that the pair’s Florida wedding was never official and that no marriage certificate was ever applied for.
She revealed that she and Flair have been living separately for the past six months.
The couple first met in 1993 when they both worked at World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
“Dreams do come true,” Flair and Barlow said in a statement at the time.
The Nature Boy has been married five times.
Flair first married Leslie Goodman in 1971 and went on to have two children: David and Megan.
Following their divorce in 1983, the WWE icon married Elizabeth Harrel, with whom he spent 23 years.
Together they have two children: Reid and Charlotte.
Flair went on to marry fitness instructor Tiffany VanDemark in 2006.
However, claims of financial troubles and violent incidents caused a strain in their marriage, causing its quick end after just three years.
Flair went on to marry Jackie Beems in 2009; however, the relationship was tainted by assault allegations and ended after three years.
