Shane McGuigan has urged Daniel Dubois to approach his fight with Oleksandr Usyk like Mike Tyson if he’s to have any sort of success.

McGuigan, one of boxing’s best trainers, has been in the corner for much of Dubois’ recent career but he won’t be there in Poland with the London heavyweight opting to go for Don Charles for his biggest fight.

Dubois begins his bout with Usyk a huge underdog and if he’s to have any chance of causing an upset, McGuigan believes he has to let his ‘hands go.’

Tyson was known for his rapid approach inside the boxing ring as he wouldn’t let his opponent settle, and McGuigan says his former charge has to use a similar strategy.

“Dubois has to approach this fight like a four-round contest, like Mike Tyson used to approach most of his fights,” said McGuigan when speaking to BBC Sport.

“If it goes past four rounds, then we have to find out what plan B is about and learn to get through it.

“You have to let your hands go in combinations, not let them set on the jab, and really stick it on Usyk. He’s definitely got a puncher’s chance, for sure.”
