The UFC legend, 35, crushed all those who came before him to become the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

But with fellow American Cormier, Jones knew he had competition for the light heavyweight GOAT crown.

Cormier defended the 205lb belt three times as well as winning the heavyweight title in 2018, while Jones holds the record for the most title defences in UFC history.

Jones defeated Cormier twice in the UFC, but after their last meeting in July 2017, he was suspended for using a banned substance.

But despite the pair’s animosity in the build-up to those fights, he insists that there are no hard feelings.

What has Jon Jones said about Daniel Cormier?

“I do believe that Daniel will do a great job. All the guys do a really good job at being unbiased,” he said during an appearance on ‘Unlocking the Cage’ with Jimmy Smith.

“The UFC hires these guys because they’re professionals and, yeah, I think he’s going to do a great job if he gets the job. Daniel has commentated for me before, I believe he was in the corner when I fought Ovince Saint Preux and did a great job. He’s not biased.

“People try to make Daniel and I out to be these absolute archenemies. If you look at competitive athletes throughout history, they all come around. Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, they all come around. It’s just competition.

“Outside of the sport, I have no ill will toward Daniel. I think he’s a very stand-up individual, and I think we’d actually make great friends if we were ever to sit down in front of each other and really just chat it out.”

Jones, 35, faces Frenchman Ciryl Gane next month in the main event of UFC 285 in Las Vegas on March 4.

Last week, he revealed that he has no problem with Cormier being in the commentary booth for his next fight.

“I’m so incredibly grateful this morning, that could’ve turned out so many different ways,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Been thanking God all morning.

“DC you are more than welcome to commentate at my fight, I think you are really good at what you do. I trust that you would be non-biased. All the best brother.”
