Heavyweight boxing legend and former champion, Mike Tyson ran into TMZ Sports on Sunday and was asked to predict a victor in a potential boxing matchup between Tyson Fury and former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou. “I have to ask, does Francis Ngannou have any chance against Fury,” the TMZ reporter asked Mike.
“Anything is possible,” Mike answered. The TMZ reporter also asked if Tyson was interested in reffing the potential fight. “Well, you never know,” Mike Tyson wittily replied. A potential fight between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury with Mike Tyson as the referee has been previously proposed by Fury.
Upon his shocking departure from the UFC following long-term contractual disagreements with the promotion, Francis Ngannou is now a free agent. Often considered the scariest opponent among all heavyweights, Ngannou’s one-punch power (according to Dana White) is equivalent to getting hit by a Ford Escort.
Since his departure from UFC, many potential opponents in boxing including names like Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, and Anthony Joshua have been speculated to turn up as the Cameroonian champ’s next big fight.
Francis Ngannou’s potential opponents ahead of speculated bout with heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury
Since scoring his first victory against Deontay Wilder in 2020, Tyson Fury has been a two-time WBC heavyweight boxing world champion. After finishing his trilogy with Wilder, Fury has often been in talks to take one of the biggest fights of his life with former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.
Initially, Ngannou was speculated to fight Jon Jones upon his return at UFC 285. However, the champion decided to leave the promotion due to the UFC’s inability to fulfil Ngannou’s needs. Currently, the free agent is in talks to fight Tyson Fury and has previously proposed the idea of a boxing fight in his tweets.
While Ngannou is a knockout powerhouse, Tyson Fury is a specialist in boxing and has a great advantage in terms of experience, techniques, and reach. From a pool of fighters like Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, and Deontay Wilder, Ngannou would most likely be interested in fighting the Gypsy King.
