There was a time when Mike Tyson was the most feared man on the planet. In the 1980s, his left-hand hook was considered the most lethal weapon in boxing. Not known for his calm demeanor, Tyson is known to express his anger and once even confronted the great Michael Jordan. However, he surprisingly remained calm at LeBron James despite being annoyed with him.
Mike described the instance as a guest on the radio show ‘The Whoolywood Shuffle’ while discussing the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor. LeBron also was in attendance and was blocking the view of the former boxing champion.
Mike Tyson was annoyed by LeBron James for blocking his view
The boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor took place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on the 26th of August, 2017. Billed as ‘The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History’, the event was attended by several A-List celebrities including NBA players, movie stars, and hip-hop artists.
Mike Tyson, also an attendee, had his seat directly behind NBA superstar LeBron James. This hindered his view of the match, and he had to watch it on the screen. While talking to DJ Whoo Kid on his radio show, the boxing legend narrated the experience of watching the match.
“LeBron is around 10 foot tall,so when he stood up, I looked up at the fight on the ceiling. They had the little tubes on the ceiling. I watched it on the ceiling. I was like, ‘God, this guy’s tall.’”
The former heavyweight champion went on to appreciate the match and described it as ‘worth the money’. However, LeBron fans will be thankful that Tyson did not confront him and was busy enjoying the fight. To be honest, no one in the world wants that kind of smoke.
Mike Tyson almost got into a fight with Michael Jordan
In 1988, Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson attended a birthday dinner of the Chicago Bears star Richard Dent. At that time, Jordan was dating Tyson’s ex-wife and actress, Robin Givens. Things got heated when a drunk Mike Tyson expressed his anger toward the Chicago Bulls star.
Mike had to be held back by guests at the party as he was unhappy with Michael. He hurled abuses toward the basketball player, but Jordan wanted no part of the confrontation. As quoted in the book, ‘Taming the Beast: An Untold Sory of Mike Tyson‘ by the author Rory Holloway:
“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says, ‘You can tell me’. Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this.”
Michael Jordan got to see the worst of Mike Tyson during the party, and you can’t blame him for leaving the venue. Especially, when the confronter is the most dangerous man on the planet and makes his living by knocking out opponents in the ring.
