Mike Tyson was left overwhelmed by John Fury telling him why he named his son after him.
Tyson Fury is of the most recognisable names in the boxing world and is the current WBC heavyweight champion.
He has triumphed over Deontay Wilder, Wladimir Klitschko and Dillian Whyte and has previously held the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titles from 2015 to 2016.
And with a name like Tyson Fury, some might believe that is an astonishing coincidence.
Except for father John, that is, who named his son after Mike Tyson, arguably the most fearsome heavyweight boxer of all time.
And he finally got the chance to tell Iron Mike to his face about the reasons why, which led to the American becoming overwhelmed with emotion.
Speaking to Boxing Arabia in a preview clip, Tyson stated: “I don’t want to meet me.”
To which the host replied: “I have a special surprise for me, I want you to meet Mr John Fury.”
Fury sat next to Tyson and said: “I have waited 35 years to meet this man.
“I said, ‘hear these words. [Tyson Fury’s] not only going to live. He’s going to be seven feet tall, 20 stone and the next heavyweight champion of the world, and his name is Tyson.'”
At this point, Tyson looked somewhat emotional in the previewed clip, with tears in his eyes.
He drew an early end to the interview as he looked overwhelmed and pushing the microphone away, saying: “Time! Time! Stop! Stop!”
Tyson Fury has met Mike Tyson before when Fury’s younger brother Tommy outpointed Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia.
Iron Mike shared a video of the two on social media, captioned: “Two Tyson’s [sic] are better than 1.”
The two dined at a Saudi restaurant where John Fury even attended, who could be heard talking to the legendary boxer.
He told Tyson: “Here he is, my main man. This is him, the man who I named my son after.
“Best heavyweight of his era, best young man ever born. Michael Tyson.”
