Strangling or Sparring? Mike Tyson’s Instagram Throwback Raises Eyebrows with Unexpected Tommy Coyle Connection

Mike Tyson visited former British professional boxer Tommy Coyle back in 1999 as a 10-year-old fighter in Leeds, with the Commonwealth champion staring some brilliant images

Mike Tyson had fans in stitches as throwback clips emerged on a visit to a young Tommy Coyle’s training.

The American became the youngest heavyweight champion at 20 years old in 1986.

And he went on to become unified two years later, holding the belts for two more.

1999 was not the best year for Iron Mike, though, as he was disqualified from a fight against Evander Holyfield for biting his ear in the previous June.

It saw Tyson take a step back from the ring – and during his hiatus he visited a 10-year-old Coyle during a training day.

And the Brit has shared some hilarious snaps of the heavyweight legend from that day.

In the images, Coyle is posing with Tyson, who has his hands around the child’s neck.

Iron Mike pretends to strangle the young boxer, who pulls a funny face at the same time.

Other images show the pair grappling before taking on a boxing session.

And Tyson appears to be caught out by the then 10-year-old, smiling through the pain in a sparring session.

These snaps were shared on Coyle’s Instagram page yesterday, where they have been liked thousands of times.

Accompanying the post, he wrote: ‘199 MIKE MY DAY.

“I don’t think you would believe me if I told you what I did to Mike Tyson on this day.”

And fans were left in stitches at the snaps.

“That is so f***ing cool,” one said.

Another commented: “Brilliant photo.”

While a third suggested what the young Brit had done.

“Did you pull his trousers down,” they asked.

With a fifth simply writing: “F***ing ace.”

Coyle retired from boxing last summer with a record of 25-5, holding the Commonwealth lightweight title in 2018.

It comes as Tyson appeared in an epic trailer for Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury’s rematch this month.
