$150,000 Poorer Mike Tyson, Almost Had a Boxing-Style Bout With Triple-H in WWE But: “It Got Pushed Off”

Boxing icon Mike Tyson is a heartthrob for every combat sports fan. Whether you’re a fan of boxing or not you have heard about and admired the craft of Mike Tyson. Thus, even MMA and Wrestling fans speak so highly about the former heavyweight champion of the world. By the time MMA boomed, Tyson was already too old for such a violent sport. However, during the peak of Wrestling and the attitude era, Tyson appeared in a WWE main event. What’s more interesting is back in the 90’s, there were also plans of Mike Tyson fighting Triple-H having only had $150,000 left. The fight was boxing-style which never came to see the light of day.

Mike Tyson at his peak was one of the most ruthless knockout machine anyone has ever seen. Tyson breezed past 50 opponents in his career and 44 of those victories were knockouts. Thus, at the beginning of his career, he was called ‘Kid Dynamite’. As Tyson grew older he gained a reputation as the ‘Baddest man on the planet’.

Due to this persona, he was a perfect match for WWE. Wrestling was quite famous back in the day and fans were treated to fantastic events and storylines. When Tyson faced a boxing ban due to the Holyfield incident, he tried out his hands in wrestling. He had a feud with Shawn Michaels and ended up knocking him out at a WrestleMania event. Thus, talks were in place for his partner Triple-H to take revenge on the boxer.

Triple H Vs. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson was going to fight Triple-H as revealed by the WWE superstar and Chief Content Officer. It was a type of redemption fight for avenging the ‘Heartbreak Kid’. However, the fight, unfortunately, did not go through due to some problems revealed by ‘The Game’.

Triple H said, “We were going to do six rounds. I don’t remember if it was going to be full boxing rules, or whether I was wearing gloves, but it ended up being a deal where the whole thing just would have been a ludicrous amount of money, and it got pushed off.“

Tyson was speaking GQ Sports where he claimed that he didn’t receive much of his payday. Tyson has had several stints in WWE and fans have really loved his appearances over the years. Even, WWE superstar The Undertaker revealed how big of an impact Tyson had on WWE.

Undertaker is grateful for Tyson

Mark Calaway has finally broken out of his character and engages in fan questions and content across social media. For decades he was under the character of the Undertaker. During one such interview, Taker revealed how big of an impact Tyson had on WWE.

Undertaker said, “He gave us an air legitimacy, because he was the most covered athlete in the world. We were getting are butts handed to us by WCW, they were killing us everywhere. We finally built are roster, it was absolutely the turning point where we never looked back again. It really was. We were on the fast track. It probably was one of the greatest eras in wrestling. In my opinion.“

‘The Deadman’ has been a quintessential part of WWE for several decades. Thus, he can speak about how much of an influence Tyson had on WWE which was struggling back in the day while competing against WCW.
