WBC Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, has shared his thoughts on Mike Tyson training his upcoming opponent, Francis Ngannou, ahead of the ‘Battle of the Baddest’ next month, revealing that he is ‘sad’ about the link-up.

Fury, who is named after the heavyweight boxing legend, was expected to face Oleksandr Usyk this year but after talks collapsed opted to take on the former UFC Heavyweight king, Ngannou.

In a shock twist a few weeks ago, the Cameroonian appointed ‘Iron Mike’ as his trainer for the showdown, seeking to learn how to best utilise his immense power in the squared circle and soak up knowledge from the two-time champion.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Fury claimed that he was ‘sad’ to see the man he was named after turn against him and training the man trying to defeat him.

“I think that it’s sad, actually. The man that I am named after, a legend, has to go against me and then come out as a loser, having lost to a man who was named after him. I think that it’s sad and I think that he should be in my corner, not the opposing corner, but business is business and I understand that it’s strictly business.”

“No matter what he teaches this fella [Ngannou], no matter how much boxing training he does, everyone has got a plan until they get punched in the face and I’m not sure who said that, but that is true. They’ve all got a plan until they get smacked in the mouth.”

Fury and Ngannou will go head-to-head on October 28th, headlining a card that is likely to accumulate huge pay-per-view numbers, with US fans able to watch on ESPN+ PPV and UK viewers able to purchase on TNT Sports Box Office.
