‘Iron Mike’ Tyson knocked out his first nineteen opponents when he burst onto the scene in the 1980s after a short but successful amateur career.
Now, he is keeping his eye on another hard-hitting prospect, he revealed on his podcast.
“Keyshawn Davis, this new guy, a 140lber from Virginia, he is a bad motherf**ker.”
“He reminds me of Pernell Whittaker. He is so hard of a puncher. He can put them [punches] together.”
Like Tyson, Davis made the switch the professional game at an early age, making his professional debut just a day before his twenty-second birthday.
However, Davis has plenty experience as an amateur and carried pedigree, and therefore expectation, into the early days of his life as a professional.
‘The Businessman’ received a silver medal at both the 2019 AIBA’s and the 2020 Olympics and has been tipped by Americans as the future of the lightweight and super-lightweight scenes.
Since his debut, Davis has built a record of 8-0 with six knockouts, including an eye-catching win over former world-title challenger, Anthony Yigit, in his most recent outing.
The versatility of the now 24-year-old means he has the choice of campaigning at either lightweight or super-lightweight and could meet his amateur rival, Andy Cruz, if he decides to stay at 135lbs.
Cruz beat Davis on all four occasions that they fought, including in the finals of the AIBA’s, the Pan-American Games and the Olympics.
Now, his Cuban foe has signed a professional contract with Matchroom and is set to make his long-awaited debut in the near future.
