Fans are hoping to see a Tyson Fury vs Mike Tyson fight in the future after the pair agreed to a bout
Tyson Fury agreed to a mouthwatering exhibition fight with Mike Tyson over three years ago.
But supporters are still waiting for the pair to enter the ring together. Initial talks had taken place as the Gypsy King opened up on a phone call in which he accepted a potential bout with the 56-year-old.
The American returned to the ring in November 2020 as he tied with Roy Jones Jr. And has since been rumoured with several further exhibitions, most notably with Fury.
The undefeated Fury last got in the ring to knock out Dereck Chisora in December, but has often expressed an interest in exhibitions.
Over three years ago, Fury admitted that he was asked if he would open to fighting Tyson
His response was emphatic. “I did get a phone call with a chance to fight Mike Tyson. I was like ‘what?’,” Fury told BT Sport in March 2020.
“Yeah, I had a phone call saying ‘would you like to fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight?’ I was like ‘hell yeah!’”
Tyson at the time had been linked with a rematch against Evander Holyfield, who he fought twice during the 90s.
“But I don’t think anything’s materialised out of it to be honest,” Fury added.
“So yeah I think he’s [Mike Tyson] definitely serious about doing some fights or whatever. But he’s fought Holyfield twice so they’re both old now, so I think they’re a bit long in the teeth.
“But who am I to say anything, what anybody’s capable of? I wouldn’t try and kill anybody’s dreams. If they’re both fit to fight, medically fit, then let them do what they want to do. It’s their life not mine.”
Last year, Fury doubled down on his plans to fight Tyson in an interview with Good Morning Britain. As he called out a number of names in a potential exhibition.
“In an exhibition you can fight old-timers, famous people, whoever you want. I’m looking at fighting Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, whoever,” he said.
